Eco-Manía recycled stuff contest

I spent the morning preparing my three recycled art proposals to participate in the contest organized by Eco-manía. This is a shop located in one of the most exclusive areas of Madrid, a place which is recommended in major guidelines for foreign visitors to Madrid.

On Belén street corner with San Gregorio, in Argensola area, this shop specializes in items made with recycled or natural materials. For me it's a nice challenge to participate in this contest, and I hope that those who pass through this place like my proposals.

During the month of October anyone can visit Eco-manía and vote for the piece you like the most. Hope to see you there.

Recycled red wine

Madrid's metro lighting

I decided to give a second life to a set of Madrid's metro maps, and slightly regreting because of the hard work that this work took me, I built a lamp with some small Ikea bulbs.

I must admit that in a corner with a soft ambient light, has its charms if hangs from the ceiling with a considerably long thread.

Green art exhibit

As Superman said, "Today is the day". Thanks to Sandra, Murielle and Asun, owners of Abonavida, a charming and tasty place located in the center of Madrid, I developed my creativity over an interesting thematic: Natural products and Fair Trade

I quickly created and adapted some pieces during the weekend, and mounted them there with a litle identity card, just looking for surprising and stimulate people visiting Abonavida. I experienced a great day doing that, hope you can visit that place and comment in a notebook i left there about my small pieces. Photos available on my Facebook page, and also here:

Recycled Santander's cobblestone

More than 2 years ago, the Plaza Porticada in Santander was restructured, in order to give it a new look, basically something more modern, including the floor. I decided to take a couple of that old cobblestones, completely polished by the cars and pedestrians along decades. Later, I had an idea in order to keep my souvenir alive. I built a wooden box, put the stone inside and filled it with cement. Additionally I decorated it with some small mosaic's tiles, and this is the result: a nightmare for the guys that performed our last moving from Colmenar Viejo to Madrid (only 25Kg, 55lb).

Torete's mirror

Nearly 9 years ago, I used an insulating plate found down in the street of Madrid to create an Osborne's bull, cutting and painting it in black. More recently, I covered a Cantabrian hague's branch with paper originally from a novel, using liquid glue. The third part of this "artwork" come from an old ladder, recycled as a frame, covered once again with paper, but in this case from a weekly magazine and liquid glue. Incredibly, while I was looking for a mirror to fit to the frame, I found it at IKEA, same measures that I needed ¿!!?. Now my son is mad about this black torete.

Plaza Mayor replica

Plaza Mayor is the main square in Madrid, actually a great architecture work. In this case, my work is smaller in size and ambition, just a replica of an inscription placed at the top of a beautiful building in the northern side of the Plaza Mayor named Casa de la Panadería. This inscription relates to the reconstruction of that building during the regency of Carlos II in Spain.

Florida's palm tree

I'm sure Coca Cola's marketing team would be pleased to have a lot of these palms along Florida mixed with the local palm trees, as the best billboard possible. Something similar to Osborne's famous bull in Spain. By the way, look at this bull made from a piece of insulation cork.

Minimalist chairs

Here we have different chair models, made using copper wire and coke cans. Something between Louis XVI style and art deco inspiration, both reduced to the simplest manufacturing process.

Swing on the cloud

There in the sky, a swing goes and comes hanging by a "wired" cloud. Interesting fact of this piece is that it has a movement effect, even it's so light and simple.

Moving fishes

Different kind of fishes -made with recycled coke cans- swimming togheter under the seaweed of copper. Light of the candle make moving effects that simulate the undersea's life.

Couple of dancers

This couple of dancers was made using copper wire and special paintings commonly used for lighting bulbs. This piece is very popular, I mean, between people that visits my home :), and was one of my first artworks.
